About Us

Indian River Lagoon of the east coast of Florida, starting at Cape Canaveral

What is the goal?

We encourage and support all efforts to clean up the lagoon and help bring it back to good health.  If the residents as well as visitors to this area help in small ways, we can make a big difference.  With some common sense measures and targeted cleanup projects we can once again enjoy a pristine lagoon.

The problem

High levels of nutrient pollution contribute to unhealthy conditions that lead to algae blooms in the Lagoon's waters. Shown above is "brown tide" - a nasty visual of what happens when too many nutrients in the water causes havoc.

Why we need to act?

Dolphins, manatee, pelicans, fish and other marine life are at risk due to the unhealthy water conditions.

Property values decline and the enjoyment of the environment by residents and tourist are impacted.

What can you do?

Think how you contribute pollutants to run-off water and how you can avoid that, even seemingly harmless grass clippings while you mow your lawn.

  1. Minimize pesticide and fertilizer use and dispose of toxic chemicals correctly.
  2. Use as little plastic as possible.
  3. Stop septic leaks: Inspect your drain field as well as your septic tank.
  4. Wash your car at a car-wash. It keeps soap & chemicals out of the Lagoon.
  5. Only clean water down street sewers or drains — no trash, no grass clippings, no oil or soap.

Do Good

Do something good for the Lagoon!

We love seeing residents and visitors take action and participate in the many volunteer events where all of us can help with the efforts organized by many "friends of the lagoon".
